Appearance
Miguel is slim but strong, with well-honed back and arm muscles and very little body fat. He has dark brown hair and hazel eyes.
When traveling, he dresses as the locals do, so has accumulated a wide variety of fashions from many different cultures. His personal preference is for European garb from 900-1400 CE, and Middle Eastern garments. Tunics and hose, layered robes, sashes, and turbans are some of his favorite things to wear. He favors dusky blue, silver, and charcoal-colored outfits, and is also partial to green.
Miguel most commonly uses rapiers, sabers, scimitars, dirks, falchions, and medieval stilettos. While he can handle larger swords, he prefers an agile fighting style, so eschews the use of large swords in favor of medium- and short-sized ones.

History
Miguel hails from the Basque region of Spain. It is unknown exactly where and when he was born. His mother, a lady's maid from La Marche, engaged in relations with an Andalusian merchant and became pregnant. Cast out by the household where she worked, she attempted to reach Miguel's father, but only made it as far as Pamplona in the kingdom of Navarre before poor constitution and general strife forced her to cut the journey short. She provided for herself and Miguel as best she could, earning meager money cleaning until her health became prohibitive of the work.
As a young child, Miguel ran wild and unattended with similarly destitute children, scrounging for extra money and food. When he was old enough, he took on odd jobs, running errands and messages for those who could afford it. It was almost enough to sustain them both in the most basic fashion, but it was his mother's intention that she secure a place for Miguel in a household, such as she had once held. After years of trying, she finally convinced the household of a small but respectable merchant family to take Miguel in to replace a stable boy caught stealing. This accomplished, Miguel's mother died. He did not cry.
The merchant household was perfectly average, neither cruel nor kind in any great regard. The cook was not fond of growing young boys wanting food, but the lady of the house would sometimes bring Miguel treats. She was on her second husband, but childless, despite her longing for an heir. (The merchant house was her inheritance, and thus running it required marrying the lady. Passing it on to a future generation required outliving the lady and remarrying a wife who might bear children. Despite this, the current master of the house was in no hurry to do away with his wife, and seemed quite content to wait out her natural lifespan.)
After overcoming his initial fear of horses, Miguel did well in the stables. He was small but hardy and strong, rarely sick, and did his work in a reasonable amount of time. He might have aspired to be in charge of the stable, but he much preferred to listen to the stories of the merchant guards. They would play with him, and when he showed some aptitude for it, they taught him to wield a stick quite well. As puberty began, Miguel grew taller, stronger, and developed quite a handsome face. He replaced the stick with a sword and earned a new position as a guard. He quickly grew to dominate the guards' training sessions, able to take what little he had been taught an build upon it.
Knighthood
The master of the house was eager to increase the family's standing despite lack of heirs. As two of his elder brothers were knights, he saw to it that Miguel became a knight-in-training, with the goal of using Miguel's skills as a way to bring glory to the household. Miguel quickly surpassed both of his master's brothers in skill and gained a good reputation for his stamina and agility.
The lesser of the two knightly brothers was something of a scholar, and imparted to Miguel lessons of morality and thought in addition to physical training. Thus Miguel learned of the noble habitus of the preudomme, precursor to codified chivalry.
Though Miguel did not wholly ascribe to these lessons in his heart, he acted upon them as much as possible, finding benefit in the reputation he earned as a result. (That this reputation reflected on his master was of no concern to Miguel. He was primarily concerned with this reputation for himself.)
he decided to abandon Spain altogether, trekking to the Mediterranean and crossing over to Africa. He wound up making his way to Jerusalem and converting to Islam. He died at some point, wound up in the Imperium, and was killed again during an altercation with Deity Command. He was brought back at the Second Conference. Presently, he makes a bit of a career as an explorer in the Wilds, but mostly is trying to figure out how he fits into the Imperium given how much it has changed in his five years of absence. He's a good cook and can somewhat frequently be found wearing an apron around the kitchen. He is good friends with Grey. Though not regarded as sociable or gentle, he cares about people and looks out for the more unhappy residents of the house, sometimes bringing them food or just sitting down beside them. He became a knight to protect people and still lives by this code.
